Abraham Mezze Bar is sisters Maggie & Marion Abraham. Our father Said came to Australia from Lebanon when he was a kid with his parents & brothers. They moved from Deir Billa, a small rural mountain village with lots of olive trees. Dad always really wanted a visa from the Palawa ‘embassy’ for living in Tasmania, and was a great believer in First Nations and Palestinian self-determination and liberation from colonial oppression. RIP legend. 

Our mother, Ruth, grew up in Tasmania and is a wealth of knowledge on all things to do with plants and gardens. She designed the kitchen gardens for Abraham Mezze Bar and taught us about the importance of being able to grow the food that you eat and to have a respect for the living things around you.

We look at food as a part of a political discussion about preserving and sharing culture in the diaspora. We love learning old ways of doing things and are aspiring to falahi (peasant) traditions of plant knowledge, preserving and harvest. We grow lots of the produce that we cook in our kitchen garden and our property at Molesworth, and make all our own breads, preserves and pickles. This place is an extension of our home and has all the things we think go together; food, music, art and politics. Oh, and chess!
